Sanitation Campaign

 

Union Minister  of Panchayati Raj Dr. C.P. Joshi today informed the Lok Sabha that        the Government of India administers the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), a comprehensive programme to ensure sanitation facilities in rural areas with the main goal of eradicating the practice of open defecation and ensuring clean environment. The main components are incentive for Individual Household Latrines (IHHL), School Sanitation and Hygiene Education (SSHE), assistance for Community Sanitary Complex, Anganwadi toilets and Solid and Liquid Waste Management. The incentive /assistance pattern for toilets in individual houses and other places to bring about an improvement in the general quality of life in the rural areas is as follows:

In reply to a written question the Minister said TSC at present is being implemented in 606 districts.  A ist indicating State wise number of districts covered under TSC is annexed.

He said TSC is a demand driven programme.The funds are released to the districts based on eligibility through State Water and Sanitation Missions as per decision taken in the Plan Approval Committee meetings.
